The Village of Shakawe is Situated on the Okavango river in the Ngamiland region of Botswana. The village is 15 km from the Namibian border and 375 km from Maun - the nearest large town.

On the right is a sattelite photo of the Okavango delta - a unique geographical feature because the Okavango Delta drains not into the sea or a lake, but into the sands of the Kalahari Desert. Maun is situated at the end of the delta - at the bottom of the photo and Shakawe is situated at the top of the delta in the panhandle - just off the photo.
