THE KNITTING WORKSHOP

Photo : lady with jersey The women who work in Motse Wa Badiri's knitting workshop produce a unique range of "Kalahari" jerseys. The jerseys are made from quality natural yarn (80% wool, 20% alpaca). The "Kalahari" patterns are inspired by, and incorporate traditional craft designs found in the woven baskets and clay pottery of Botswana.

Emphasis in the workshop is placed on qualified employees being responsible for the selection and design of each garment they craft. Through taking such initiative, employees can take pride in their work and gain confidence in their abilities. Photo: a selection of jerseys

Motse Wa Badiri's knitting workshop has become a successful area for providing vocational training and employment for people with physical disabilities. At present, the workshop employs four women with disabilities; two skilled employees, one trainee and one sheltered employee. A resident volunteer coordinates the activities within the workshop.
