Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA)

What is CIMA?

CIMA is a UK qualification with enormous international prestige. It is the only accountancy qualification which specialises in preparing accountants exclusively for work in a commercial or industrial environment. It has more than 35 000 members and 55000 students world wide and a long history in Botswana. The examination syllabus is structured to three levels. Applicants with a relevant degree from the University of Botswana are exempt from the Foundation levels.

What type of course does BAC run?

BAC runs courses for each of the Intermediate and Final levels each year. Because of the flexibility of the examinations students are increasingly choosing subjects to sit, rather than levels, and the structure of our courses recognises this. Our CIMA courses are organised as follows:

  • The courses run on a six-month cycle preparing students for their examinations in May and November.
  • The courses are offered on both an evening and full-time basis to provide maximum flexibility so that students can easily combine their working and studying routines.
  • All subjects are offered via either an evening course or on a full-time basis in any calendar year. (This does not apply to two Stage 1 subjects; Economics and Business Environment, which are only offered as evening courses).
  • All courses end with a revision course of two weeks per subject.

  • For details of the subjects offered and the course dates see:
