The firm was established in 1922 and offers a wide range of civil, structural, electrical and mechanical engineering and management services related to the development of infrastructure and industry. In 1994 the DHV Group of the Netherlands and SSI signed an agreement to co-operate in the fields of engineering consultancy. In 1997 SSI merged with a South African based electrical and mechanical engineering consultancy, G H Marais to further enhance their multi-disciplinary capacity. SSI also acquired JE Glibbery & Associates, specialist mechanical engineers, whose fields of expertise include food processing, beverage, materials handling, water supply and treatment, waste water treatment and sludge disposal. Staff complement within the DHV/SSI Group is over 3 000. The firm undertakes a wide range of work including, public health engineering, road and rail transport, irrigation, agriculture, maritime and river works, cryogenic tanks, geotechnics, industrial, commercial, municipal and educational building services, power generation, transmission and distribution, materials handling, hydraulic plant and services for the water and waste water treatment.
